The National Minimum Wage Regulations 1999 (Amendment) Regulations 2009 increase the minimum hourly rate of the National Minimum Wage from £5.73 to £5.80 per hour and the development rate from £4.77 to £4.83 per hour.

These regulations also include two new measures. Significantly, service charges, tips, gratuities and cover charges paid to a worker through the employer’s payroll can no longer count towards the National Minimum Wage. Also, workers participating in the European Community Erasmus and Comenius Programmes will now qualify. (From 1 October)
