Some tax payers have been receiving scam e-mails from HMRC notifying them of a tax overpayment and requesting them to complete the on-line questionnaire.   The e-mails are very official looking and well presented.

Please note: THESE ARE FICTITIOUS.  DO NOT COMPLETE THE DOCUMENT ATTACHED TO THE E-MAIL UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES.

Please forward  the e-mail to:

phishing@hmrc.gsi.gov.uk

Once forwarded delete the e-mail.

HMRC current guidance is that they will never send e-mails requesting tax payer personal information.
